Kevin’s Personal Philosophy When it comes to horses and riders.
No Horse and Rider are the same.
Each Horse and Each Rider are different, as such no one lesson is the same. Each lesson and training session is customized to fit the rider, the horse, and the pairs ultimate goals.
You’ll develop your own cup of tea.
Just as each rider and horse is different, each rider will develop their own way of doing things.
We Finesse Horses
We don’t force our horses, we finesse our horses. When it comes to a tugging match, you won’t beat the horse (Metaphorically and physically), so you must learn patience and how to finesse a horse.
We Ride in a horse
We ride in a horse, not on a horse. When we take this perspective we change the way we think about the geometry of a horse and how we move together.
Ride as many horses as you can
Riding as many horses as you can, and trying as many events as you can will only increase your skills as a rider. The More saddle time you have, the better you and the Horse are.
Its the small things.
Usually when a horse is acting up, it’s a small thing, bad saddle fit, bad pad, bad posture.
About Kevin
Kevin has been riding for over 5 and a half years. He started with Serenity a 19 year old quarter horse, his heart horse, and his herd quickly. He now has Loki, a 16 year old appendix. Bentley a 3 year old draft / quarter horse cross Kevin trained from the ground up. And Charlie, his 6 year old roping / cutting sorting prospect.
Kevin first got into horses with a goal of roping, but quickly fell in love with other events. These include Ranch Sorting, Ranch Roping, Team Roping. He will always tell you he’s just a guy who likes to try and rope things, help people, and ride his horses. When people ask for references, Kevin will introduce you to his horses. Don’t worry he’s got references for you as well.
Kevin believes in a solid foundation when it comes to training, meaning lots of solid groundwork. He’s had a lot of recent success with first rides and refreshers, with no buck or bolt. A first ride or refresher should be relaxed and positive for both the rider and horse.
Kevin has lesson horses and is willing to travel to you.
